What is Trinity?

Most times, we hear this in church, Pastors praying
and ending it in the name of the
Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

They make up the trinity, in this piece; we are going to look at the trinity,
the meaning and some explanations to the way the trinity functions.
The word Trinity was derived from two words actually; ‘Tri’ which means three
and ‘Unity’ which means one. So putting them together, we can say that it is
three in one.

This tells us that God has three supernatural beings in one. They function together;
they validate each other and not contradict. Though they are in various forms but
they are one. When we try to make a physical example, we can use H2O, which is
water, steam and ice. They are H2O but in different forms.

From the beginning, God showed himself to be a trinity.
During creation, God said, “Let us make man in our own image after our
likeness”. Always the trinity is in a relationship and unbroken communication,
with all functioning not as different gods, but as one God.

Let us drive it home this way, one can’t be
addressed as a father unless he has a child.
One can’t be called a Son unless
he has a father. Now the third person in the trinity is known as both the
Spirit of the father as in Mathew10 vs 20, and the Spirit of the son as in
Galatians 4 vs 4-6.

Remember the term “trinity” is never used
in the Bible, and it is a term used mainly to describe the triune God
coexistent
. However, the concept of trinity is throughout the Bible. Here is a couple of scripture references that claims all three are tri-unity inhabiting
one another and working together to accomplish the divine design in the
universe.”

Go
therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit … (Matthew 28:19, ESV)

[Jesus
said,] “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the
Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness
about me.” (John 15:26, ESV)

The the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the
Holy Spirit is with you all. (2 Corinthians 13:14, ESV)

The doctrine of Trinity acknowledges God is One and
He exists as three different persons: Father God, the creator, and the source
for all life; Jesus Christ who has revealed the Father’s love to mankind, and
the Holy Spirit who dwells and lead us to God and Jesus and also always work in
transforming the world according to God’s purpose.

For instance, the Bible contains numerous clear
statements regarding the unity of God: Deuteronomy 6:4 tells us that
“the Lord is one.” 1 Corinthians 8:4 adds that “there
is no God but one.” 1 Timothy 2:5 explicitly says “there is
one God.” All Christians heartily affirm this truth.

In the Old Testament,

·
He revealed Him as a Mighty Father.

·
As time passed He loved humankind
and revealed Him as a Peacemaking Son.

·     After His resurrection on the day of
Pentecost, He revealed Himself as a Mighty Holy Spirit, and till date, He leads
us in this trinity.

When Jesus got baptized by John, heaven opened, and
Holy Spirit descending like a dove alighting on Him and a voice from heaven
said:” This is my Son, whom I love; with him, I am well pleased.” This
clearly shows the Trinity of God, which is one.

In the Trinity, there are different functions as to
persons and as to operations but unity of will. None of the Persons in the
Trinity is superior to the other. God’s decrees are based on His will. He is
not obligated to purpose anything, nor is He obligated to create anything. The
Trinity is perfect in itself
